Planning for college is overwhelming for many students and parents. That’s why New College Institute (NCI) hosts the annual College Night in Virginia event to connect students and their families with the information they need to choose the right college and apply for financial aid.

On Tuesday, the event drew approximately 275 people to NCI’s new building on the Baldwin Block. During the event, experienced professionals attempted to take the mystery out of financial aid and guide students and families through the process of planning and paying for college. In addition, students had the opportunity to meet with representatives from local college and scholarship organizations.

“We want everyone in Martinsville-Henry County to see that college is affordable and attainable. There are a wealth of resources available to help students be successful as they take the next step in reaching their educational goals,” said Sammy Redd, NCI Coordinator of College Access.

During the event, attendees could enter to win one of three $500 scholarships.

The College Nights program is part of an initiative from the Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC), a nonprofit corporation providing support services for financing higher education. These college planning events are held October 15 – November 15 in California, Connecticut, Oregon, and Virginia.
