What is the tuition? Are there additional fees?
Each partner institution sets its own tuition rates. Information on annual tuition rates and fee schedules is available under “Academic Programs” or on the websites of our partner institutions.
If NCI offers the 3rd and 4th years of bachelor’s degrees, where do I complete the first 2 years?
Students may complete an associate’s degree at a community college or students may transfer credits from other accredited four-year colleges and universities. These decisions are made by the partner institution to which a student applies and decisions are based upon requirements of the particular institution or degree program.
Do I qualify for financial aid? How do I apply?
Financial aid is provided through our partner institutions. Students who demonstrate financial need typically qualify for federal grants and loans. To determine eligibility for financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
In addition, our partner institutions may offer scholarships and grants. Contact the financial aid office of the college or university sponsoring your program for more information.

Academic Programs
Are you a “real” college? What college name will be on my diploma?
New College Institute is, by law, a publicly funded educational institution. However, it partners with accredited public and private colleges and universities to provide opportunities for students to complete bachelor’s and master’s degrees. New College Institute does not award degrees. Your degree will be awarded by the college or university offering your program. That institution’s name will be on your degree.
Will I take the same classes at New College Institute that I would take on the campus of the partner institution?
Yes. To earn your degree, you must meet the same academic requirements as students taking classes on campus.
Are your classes taught online or by satellite? Do I have to travel to the partner institution to take any of my classes?
We are committed to providing students with face-to-face instruction. In some programs, there will be opportunities for distance learning, but most classes will be taught in Martinsville-Henry County by qualified professors employed by the partner institution. In most cases, you will be able to earn your degree without leaving Martinsville-Henry County.
How long will it take me to earn my degree?
Completion times vary by course load and degree, but in most cases, it is possible to earn your bachelor’s degree in two years following completion of an associate degree or two years of coursework at another college or university provided all prerequisite courses have been completed. Master’s degree programs can typically be completed in two years or less.

I’m thinking about going back to college, but I’m not sure what I want to study. Is there somebody that can help me?
Yes! Staff at New College Institute (Outreach Educators) will work with you to assess your interests, skills, and readiness to pursue a college education. They can help you identify an educational pathway and guide you through the admissions and financial aid processes. We will work with you to pursue a college education at any institution that interests you, not only New College Institute. Look at “About Us” on the “Staff” page for contact information.
I’ve got a full-time job and a family. How can I find time to pursue a college education?
New College Institute offers programs designed to meet the needs of working adults. Most programs are offered evenings and/or weekends. Our academic programs are structured to provide you with the flexibility and convenience you need to earn your degree without leaving your current job or compromising your family obligations.
Admissions and Registration
Whom should I contact if I am interested in enrolling in one of your programs?

What are the admissions requirements for your programs?
New College Institute provides students with the opportunity to complete the final two years of a four-year bachelor’s degree. Therefore, in most cases, a student must have either an associate degree or two years of college coursework prior to enrolling in one of our programs. Admission requirements vary by college and academic program, so it is important to contact your program’s coordinator to be certain you are taking the appropriate prerequisite courses.
How will I know which courses I need to take?
Each academic program has a Faculty-in-Residence or program coordinator who will advise you about what courses you need to take and how you are progressing toward graduation. Your program coordinator will be available to answer any questions you have about course registration, tutoring, grades, or career opportunities. I earned some college credits years ago but did not finish my degree. Will my credits apply to one of your degree programs?
Credit transfer policy is determined on an individual basis according to the academic policies of the college or university offering your program. Your program coordinator will review your transcript and help determine which courses will transfer.

Where are your classes held?
Most classes will be taught at the New College Institute classroom building in Uptown Martinsville. Some programs will be taught on the campus of Patrick Henry Community College.
Do you provide housing for students?
New College Institute does not currently offer housing for students. As we grow and there is demand, the need for housing will be discussed by the Board of Directors. In the meantime, if you are relocating to the area and need assistance, please contact an Outreach Educator to assist you.
Is NCI accessible to students with disabilities?
Yes. The NCI classroom building is wheelchair accessible. For additional services, please contact our offices at least 48 hours in advance to arrange for other services.
How do I reserve one of your meeting rooms?
NCI has classroom space available for meetings and special events. You may request a room by calling 276-403-5605, by e-mail, or refer to our Meeting Facilities section of our website.
