Assistant Director for Academics and Communications

New College Institute (NCI), located in an underserved region of Southern Virginia, is a unique multi-university center that provides access to a range of academic offerings and professional development experiences. NCI seeks a creative, energetic Assistant Director for Academics and Communications to lead a small local team as well as a network of statewide partnerships in designing and developing opportunities for access to higher education, providing exceptional student support services, and implementing strategic communications.

Job Summary / Objectives:  This unique full-time administrative faculty position will provide dynamic academic, administrative, and public relations leadership to identify strategic opportunities and lead effective implementation. Reporting to NCI's executive director, this position is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating all educational programming as well as student services, experiential learning and community outreach. This position will supervise staff and faculty and identify, analyze and interpret institutional data to improve and report effectiveness. This position serves as a liaison with university partners, state agency leadership and other stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications Required:  A Master’s Degree and excellent communication strategy and skills.  Demonstrated collaboration with multiple high-level partners and stakeholders, experience in higher education leadership and administration, knowledge of national and regional trends in higher education.  Demonstrated record of creative strategic planning and problem solving.

Preferred Qualifications:   Doctoral Degree is preferred with a minimum of five years of increasing administrative responsibility to include staff and budget supervision, public relations management, knowledge of and experience in working with underserved populations. 

Hiring Salary Range:  Salary commensurate with relevant work experience.
