Who would be interested?
  • Special educators
  • General educators
  • Paraprofessionals
  • Therapists
  • Administrators
  • Human services personnel
  • Anyone else wanting to learn more about autism

Why should I participate?
  • Curriculum based on research and best practices.
  • Prepares personnel to educate and support those with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
  • ASD includes: Autism; Asperger syndrome; other pervasive developmental disorders.
  • Certificate is from Radford University, not the state.
  • There is no endorsement in Virginia for autism.  This is not an add-on.
  • This program at RU is intended to meet concerns of those who want to know more about autism.

How are classes taught?

  • Offered on a non-traditional schedule.
  • Class meets 9 hours at a time on four, non-consecutive Saturdays.
  • Usually students choose shorter breaks and class ends early.
  • 9-hours of online time is also a part of the course.  This "individual" work can be done at one's own convenience, usually over a 2-week period.
  • Distance work is completed via Blackboard/WebCT.
