The Educational Leadership Master's Degree is designed to prepare candidates to assume leadership positions in both school and district offices.  The organizing theme for the program is the school/district administrator's central role as the intepreter, facilitator, and initiator of educational change leading to effective schools for all children.











  1. GRE scores at the 25th percentile or higher for both verbal and quantitative sections.
  2. Undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  3. Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
  4. Professional resume.
  5. Hold or have held a valid teaching license.
  6. A two- to three-page written statement (double spaced) describing the applicant's professional background, the educational issues that the applicant would like to address in the Master's program and the applicant's long-term professional goals.
  7. Three years of full-time teaching experience in the school setting.
  8. Two recommendations from school personnel (administrative and instructional) familiar with the candidate's teaching performance and leadership potential.  Online applications can be completed through JMU's Graduate School at www.jmu.edu/grad.

Additionally, if a candidate needs time to complete all the admissions requirements, a non-degree seeking student application can be submitted in order to participate in courses until all admissions requirements have been met.  That application is available at www.jmu.edu/outreach.
