THE PROGRAM
Accounting is often referred to as "the language of business" and is one of the most popular majors at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Accounting helps students learn how individuals, businesses, governments, charitable organizations and other groups interact and relate to the problem of the efficient allocation of scarce resources in a free-market economy. This degree program will provide a solid foundation for a career in business, irrespective of whether the student desires to enter the public practice of accounting, serve as a financial executive in industry or government, or start and operate a business.
Accounting is one of the most demanded fields in business. An individual who can accurately account for revenues and expenses is worth a great deal to an organization. Therefore, accounting graduates can expect fairly high starting salaries.
SCHOOL MISSION
The mission of the VCU School of Business is to prepare students for successful careers and lifelong learning by providing management education firmly grounded in technology, interdisciplinary teamwork and global perspectives. Essential to achieving this mission is striving to excel in teaching and scholarly research, and to build effective, value-based relationships with the external community.
The VCU School of Business ranks in the top five percent of business schools worldwide due to its AACSB International-accredited status. Virginia Commonwealth University was the first business school in the nation to gain accreditation for our undergraduate program in information systems by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc., the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology.

Prospective students will apply to Virginia Commonwealth University as transfer students. Applications will be evaluated by the VCU admissions office on an individual basis.
Students who have earned the associate in arts, associate in science, or associate in arts and science degrees from Virginia community colleges will be considered to have met all lower-division general education requirements for the B.S. in Accounting program with the exception of the applied calculus, accounting, and economics requirements. No more than 63 semester credits can be accepted from the A.A., A.S., or A.A. & S. degrees.
Credit is not accepted for courses in which the assigned grade is below a "C". Associate's degree holders who have had their general education requirements waived may therefore find that some of their credits are not accepted and additional credits will need to be earned.
